The Birmingham International Center At its inception more than 50 years ago this vital non-proit was known as the Festival of Arts. As it gained a more international focus, the name evolved to the Birmingham International Festival with a focus on saluting one country a year. With the opening of the new facility in December 2005 the organization officially became the Birmingham International Center and operates as Birmingham's Embassy to the World. While the core programming, known as the Salute will continue in schools across the state, the new facility will strive to provide three necessary components to the Birmingham international community: a primary source of information, a place to connect, and facilitation for international visitors. Sojourns is located in the Birmingham International Center.
